Hi guys Bibleman here coming at you with the team review and my thoughts about the league, cause I know my opinion is held in very high regard by everyone here.
Once again we did an auction draft and I’m a fan of them. Gives a lot of interesting approaches to drafting your team and just feels more interactive than a standard draft of high mmr players first and lower mmr players after. I like seeing the different approaches people take to drafting in an auction draft. You got some people taking pages out of the Cats666 book of captaining and other people would go supports first and hope to snag cores they want for cheap later. Or bidding up players who you know a captain really wants to screw them over a bit. Big fan of auction. Also a big fan of making fun of people who can’t do the bot command correctly. I don’t know how to feel about fall through draft. I think it disproportionately affects the 3k mid and safelane players because the roster slots available for those positions are less due to captains. ( Yumi Yop waffz and stonks all played mid/safe so those are spots automatically not available to other players) honestly I’m kinda talking out of my ass about this maybe it doesn’t affect them idk dude. I liked the group discord thing, I think it would have worked a lot better had lower and upper been on seperate days but I think the sense of community angle worked at least with my team. For example I provided a lot of insight into the sir fireball team which they proceeded to ignore entirely (but king pirate lost on kunkka to meph mid lmao that king pirate guy blows more than a whale gottem ) As for suggestions from the townhall the Monday VS Wednesday debate I think is kinda weird. Either day is gonna exclude some people and we already know Wednesday works for most people so I’d probably just stick with that. More content is always good. That’s part of the reason I’m writing this cause I want to maybe inspire other people but my writing is straight doo doo so it probably doesn’t help. Coaching during games is an interesting one. I think you’d run into the problem where coaches become even more scarce cause a lot of them probably have other commitments / don’t want to micromanage a bunch of idiots for 2 hours. Personally If a coach wanted to join in I think it’d be fine if they watched the game and listened in on comms but didn’t give advice during the game and just gave pointers afterwards. As for people campaigning for 5k players to be allowed in I don’t see a problem with it. It’ll just lead to a phantom scenario where people spend ass loads of money on them, or a Harb scenario where they captain and just get zero dollars. Either way I think it’s fine.
I’ll start off with myself for the team review. As much as ping said it as a joke throughout the season I can’t help but feel like I was a bit of a craptain. I never realized how much work it actually was to do so I kinda just ended up not doing anything. We never had a scrim this season and occasionally pubbed or laned against each other to practice. I think this hurt our team as I felt like we never really meshed as a unit very well. In hindsight it was probably a mistake to draft both ping and cerys. When it comes to toxicity fighting fire with fire does not work and in fact just results in more fire. Sometimes it felt like me, dennis, and lovell were children just trying to play some wii sports and our parents were going through a messy divorce mid game. One thing I really liked is having the agency to pick your team. Felt nice to choose who you wanted and not just be tossed into a team of randos.
Disclaimer:
I like all of these people, this is solely a critique of their dota 2 personality. Please do not take it personally :)
(except Dennis I fucking hate that guy)
Ping
I know ping isn’t held in the highest regard around here and I understand why, but I enjoy playing with him and usually try my best to make sure he’s not malding. Unfortunately sometimes malding happens anyways and then it’s pretty annoying to play with him. Despite I leaned on him a lot this season both in game and in drafting. We would usually try to play a 4 protect one kinda style and it worked out pretty well. But in drafting he had a lot of input and I was basically just clicking the pick and ban button. This was really helpful and part of the reason I picked him cause I knew he had captained before and his drafting always seemed pretty good so I trusted him. The toxicity was an issue when him and cerys would butt heads but I still enjoyed the season, just kind of a buyer’s beware on ping
Cerys
I like cerys. Cerys is super chill outside of dota 2. I really enjoyed her updating us on her boyfriend out banging chicks or whatever while she was playing in a shitter league. Or anecdotes about her feet getting posted on reddit. (don’t ask for the link I’ve been looking for it desperately to no success) unfortunately this comes with a little baggage in the malding department. That and she would always be muted in draft saying she was doing laundry or something which I never knew if it was genuine or if she was just giga tilted. I think cerys’ hero puddle set us back a bit. I definitely think it’s something she would work on. Especially when she plays a bad pub on one of them before hand and then swears off playing the hero. Mostly I think cerys just gets in her own head and that screws her up. Unfortunately her championship pedigree was not enough to carry us but I still enjoyed playing with her. Although cerys malding is a lot funnier when it’s in a co-op game and me and inno are doing dumb shit.
Lovell
Right away I was super nervous cause it took this guy like a week to respond to my invite to the team server which kinda sketched me out and think the season was gonna be dogshit. All of those notions went out the door when I started playing with him though. He made an effort to learn everyone’s irl name and go by that which I appreciated. I’m not sure if I could have gone a whole season of calling him lovell tbh (one season with gay firefighters was enough of weird names for me) This season was the first time he competed in a shitter league and it showed a bit. It seemed like he was fine playing p1 in his ranked games but in league games he just seemed nervous and not playing to his full potential. We fixed this by mostly having him play cores that didn’t really need to afk farm. He played a lot of razor and viper because of this. This really helped his play and we enjoyed pretty decent success with his strat. Bryan’s a chill guy tho. No malding issues and was always accepting of his mistakes. Would draft again.
Dennis
Fuck that guy
Just kidding dennis is poggers. I really like playing with him despite the fact that he has a cough all the time and it’s a bit distracting. I know Dennis irl which I think made it a lot more palatable when he would miss every skill shot possible. Honestly I just like playing with Dennis, not much to add but would draft again.
Doss
Honestly I don’t have much to say about doss. I personally didn’t get much coaching from him but that’s to no fault of his. Our schedules just didn’t match up well but everyone else seemed to do it somewhat often. Cerys especially seemed to improve a lot from his coaching. Also subscribe to Doss :) and hit the bell to join the notification squad
Congrats to Nicks’s team and I’m hoping the homie phantom can catch the W tomorrow :)
